The first day of operation was on September 24, 1945, with Mr. Vazanelis G. Emmanouil as the first teacher.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The school\u2019s purpose was to educate the previously illiterate children from the remote northern areas of Kalymnos, such as Arginonta, Skalia, Palionisos, Toichoi, and Emporios. Its headquarters were in the village of Skalia, as it was the central location for the other villages, equidistant from them. Initially, the school was housed in the rented rural home of fisherman Theodoros Raptis, today the home of Ioannis Platsis. Later, the Municipality of Kalymnos provided land to build a proper school building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The construction process began in 1961, and it took more than ten years, many efforts, and donations to complete the project. Key contributors were the teachers of the school at that time. The funding for the project came from the School Buildings Organization and the Dodecanese Provincial Fund. Trees were planted in the schoolyard by the students themselves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The inauguration of the current school building took place on December 15, 1972, with the late Konstantinos Giannikouris, son of Ioannis, serving as the teacher.
