Beautification & Cultural Association of Skalia, Kalymnos
A vibrant place of culture, volunteerism and social cohesion

The Association was founded as a result of the inspiration and love of the residents for the history, customs, traditions, and heritage of their village. With this vision, they created an organization that aims to highlight the cultural and natural beauty of Skalia, contribute to solving practical issues faced by the small settlement, and keep alive the memory of a place that has shaped the lives of their parents, ancestors, and the founders themselves.

From its founding to the present day, the Association has carried out substantial work. Through beautification interventions, cleaning actions within the framework of the “Let’s Do It Greece” program, tree plantings, and environmental initiatives, it has significantly contributed to the protection and enhancement of the environment.

It revitalized the cultural life of the village through events dedicated to history and tradition, the organization of festivals, participation in the National Program commemorating the 200 years since the Greek Revolution, and the creation of the newest Monument of the Naval Battle of Gerontas.

The Association’s contribution is also practical and directly felt in the daily life of the residents. Through the repair and maintenance of the former Primary School, the construction of a bus shelter and public toilets, the installation of lighting in the square, and studies for the restoration of Byzantine churches, it has greatly improved the village’s infrastructure. At the same time, with initiatives such as organizing free medical examinations, it has proven to be a support for the local community.

The Association is not merely a cultural organization, but a vibrant place of gathering and cooperation, where volunteerism is cultivated, youth participation is encouraged, intangible cultural heritage is preserved, and sustainable local development is promoted.

It relies on the voluntary contribution and active participation of members and friends, and remains open to anyone who wishes to support it with their presence, ideas, and assistance.
