Early Christian building evryotholos
On the elevation to the east of the Emporios coastal zone lies the Evryotholos. It is a large vaulted structure, with external dimensions of 10.05 x 6.75 meters. Its height reaches 4 meters. In the center of its southern side, there is the only entrance, with a width of 1.30 meters and a height of 1.90 meters. Above it, there was a narrow skylight. The large arched roof is supported internally by a reinforcing arch, which rests on columns attached to the long sides of the building.
Architecturally, the Evryotholos resembles the Proto-Byzantine / Early Christian vaulted tombs of Kalymnos and Telendos, but it is significantly larger in size. No signs of burial niches are preserved on the floor of the Evryotholos.
However, the absence of other burial structures near the contemporary settlement of Emporios likely explains the use and large size of this unique monument in the area, which seems to have served the communal burial needs of the nearby settlement.
